Jean Hammett

I have always been inspired by the mysterious, contrasting oaks and pines of the Gulf Coast. They appear often in my oil paintings and watercolors. I think of them as survivors. After raising five children (3 artists), I realized a long held dream to pursue a BFA at Newcomb College where I studied with Hal Carney (Regan Carney’s dad). Living on Bayou Portage shaped me as a painter. The view from the porch was always changing, never still. A heron flying over still water against a backdrop of pines and palmetto, a full moon in a starry night sky; this I love. This I paint
